A Call For Peace

Listen up folks, I have something I need to ask and it's not gonna be easy. Now, many of you are preparing to make the trip to DC this weekend to celebrate the inauguration of President-Elect Obama. And I am sure that you have heard that there are millions of people expected to hit a city that boasts a population of barely 600,000. I, who usually does just fine in big crowds, am actually a little nervous about this trip. I understand that this is a historical moment and so many people need to see, feel and experience it. However, I think the only way this can be a remotely successful and enjoyable event for all attendees is if a certain group decides to stay home: White people.

Yes you, and your "liberal" scarf too.

Now, before you guys start with the "Obama is about unity and change and friendship" or "He's half-Whiiiiite!" and "I'm a liberal" and "My third cousin twice removed has a neighbor who may or may not be half-octroon", I just want you to see where I'm going with this. DC is mad small. Maaaaad small. I know, because I ran those streets for about five years. There just isn't enough room for everybody to go. Now, if we look at it mathematically, you will see why I am asking White people to stay home:

Chances Whites have had to go see the inauguration of a White president: 43
Chances Blacks have had to go see the inauguration of a Black president: 1

Now, I should be able to stop the argument here, shake hands and know that I will be able to comfortably enjoy my time in DC without being crushed to death by people who should have very well stayed home. But I know that sheer logic is not enough to deny the White man what he wants. *Le sigh*

So let's look at it this way: while we realize that Barack couldn't have been elected without White people, what is the whole reason that his win was so amazing, so seemingly impossible? Oh yeah....WHITE PEOPLE. Why yes, those decades and decades of oppression and racism did make the idea of a Black president sound crazy, didn't they? I think instead of coming to DC and patting yourselves on the back for a job well done (AKA doing the right thing for once), Barack's inauguration day should be a day of atonement for White people. Stay home and think about all the ways you can REALLY support our new President's message of hope and change by confronting your racism. Most White people will tell you that they are not racists, but have done zip, zlich, zero to eradicate racism...though they could have a much bigger impact in doing so that most Black folks ever could.

Something else worth considering- like it or lump it, Black people are gonna turn Inauguration Weekend into All Star Weekend. The club is gonna be jumpin' jumpin' like Destiny's Child circa 1999. We know that we party a little bit differently than you guys....

Black party

White party

So...yeah, White folks. Stay home, I promise to take plenty of pictures and tell you all about it. We can share him on January 21st, but on THE BIG DAY...he's ours. We need this more than you, trust.

I'm just sayin,

I have no idea where I am partying this weekend. Inauguration parties are more expensive than New Years! I will be in the street though. Living in the DMV has its perks sometimes!

Ms_Slim said...

I will be here in Chi, watching the inauguration from hopefully a very VERY big screen. It'll be just like I was there! :)

I wanted to go...Lawd only knows how I felt about missing the Grant Park acceptance.....ESPECIALLY since about a hundred folk were blowing up my phone practically TELLING me where I was going to be (Grant Park) when our president is declared the "elect". I stayed safe. At a private watch. In front of the tv. Nervous.

I'm content though. Very. I just know I better dvr the whole thing lol

Now that was crazy but inside all crazy people is some element of truth. I had boys who went to Morgan State and Howard and DC is not big enough to handle the turnoff near Howard on a normal day. I can only imagine how crazy it's going to be. You forgot to mention that a whole shit load of people will get lost because all this NE, SE and stuff will throw you off. I think people better park by BET and walk because they are in trouble. I'm watching it in HD at home and also you forgot to warn them how cold it's going to be. That cold is going to make black people move down south and back to kali for sure.

I think its very narrow minded to insist that anyone who isn't black isn't thrilled, overwhelmed, overjoyed and thankful that Barack Obama is our next president.

As a silly white girl who knows nothing about the experience of systematic oppression or the hopelessness of under-representation, I'm sure I have no place on this blog or in this comment section. But if you want to talk about eradicating racism start with your own ironically narrow view on who does and does not "deserve" to take part in the incredible moment of Barack Obama becoming president.

His candidacy and victory is just not about blackness, but also about a greater narrative of fighting for social justice, which makes excluding any certain group of people from the celebration antithetical.

I'm white and blonde and just like the Seinfelds, I'm coming to D.C. to be "all over your shuffleboard court," 'cause we love Obama, too. So there.

Never read your blog before, never will again. If this post was a joke, it's not funny. If it's not a joke, it's perhaps the most depressing response to this election I've seen yet.

mari said...

Wow - via Jezebel, and they're right to call out your racism. Have fun in DC.

Anonymous said...

I think this narrow view merely plays into the system you loathe. Personally, as a white-looking Hispanic woman, I feel this inauguration is about a LOT more than a "black" man getting elected. Like Obama alluded to in his acceptance speech, this is about breaking down the door for ALL people. Whether they be rich and black, poor and white, or hell, a woman or a Hispanic, this is a moment for everyone to remember this country was founded on the principle of EQUALITY.

Anonymous said...

nooope, sorry. if that dude in the black party pic is going to be in DC, this YT will be there too to drool all over him. youses gonna have to share.

Anonymous said...

Ignorance! YAY!

From one black woman to all the supporters of this trash blog: y'all are PATHETIC.

Anonymous said...

And look at the color of the girl partying in your Black Party.

Think the men want the white girls to stay home?!

Anonymous said...

Wow, you want to talk about racism? You are very racist. Doesn't matter what creed or color, to leave any anyone out on race is... what? Racism. Take a step back and look at yourself. Maybe take a class or two on Race and Ethnic values. Educate yourself.

Anonymous said...

What about a white Bosnian refugee who escaped genocide, and is proud to live in America? What about a white single mother who's been hustling all her life, and is relieved that now the poor will finally get some attention? Or what about some nice white girl whose best friend is black, and they want to show up and just have a great time together? What if Obama's mom were still alive and she wanted to see her damn son?

I think that this post is extremely racist, and not at all funny. I'm a minority myself, and I fucking hate when minorities pull the same discriminatory bullshit as whites but then act like it's not racism. No, it is, and this isn't what Obama wants for America. This kind of attitude serves to divide people, not unite them.

Anonymous said...

Also via Jezebel and also supporting their calling out your racism. For me this election is not about color nor is anything else. It's about opportunity for all. This post disgustes me.

Anonymous said...

I'll do my part to end racism in the white community if you do yours to end homophobia in the black community.

Deal?

Hey, that's hilarious!

Black people are like this: (Insert gross over-generalization).

But white people are like this: (Insert other gross over-generalization).

Isn't that both funny AND original? Shouldn't we take the momentous occasion of Obama's inauguration and just shit all over it with bullshit race-baiting? Yeah, that'd work.

Anonymous said...

This is pretty wildly offensive. Substitute all the white for black in your post and see how enraged you would be upon reading something so racist.

boo said...

Good job! Your endeavor to be equal with racist white people is on track. You're just as much a part of the problem as anyone else.

Average Kinda Girl said...

So white people stay home? What about us multi-ethnic? Obamarama is consdiered multi more than he is black right? oh yeah , wrong! He is black because black deeemed him black but poor lil ol me is still a damn "light bright, wanna be, actin white, mut, heinz 57, proctor, good hair havin porch negro", so do i stay home or do i go? Maybe I should just drink instead and wait for the day when a mulit-ethnic individual who claims to be multi-ethnic and sticks by his or her people is elected. Blacks win, Whites cower in fear, and us muts get drunk! wooot!

Good to be reminded that ignorant bullshit knows no bounds of race, or culture. All this time I thought I'd have to slum it at Freerepublic or Redstate for a dose of face-palm bigotry, when I could just get it here.

Barack's my fuckin' president too, and anyone who thinks I voted for him out of some sense of liberal guilt can kiss my pale Wop ass. I, like millions of white Americans, voted for him because he was the best man for the job.

Anonymous said...

hey, look at that picture of the "black party." see the hand on the side? see how it's white?

parties--just like inaugurations and American society--should be open to anyone. at least that black man can have fun with someone who doesn't look the same as he does, unlike you.

fuck you and fuck your petty racism.

Anonymous said...

Does this post make any sense? You're proud that he's bringing this message of hope and promise, but you don't think white people should be a part of that?

Sorry, sista, but you got this one wrong.

Anonymous said...

Just a note on your math:
Chances I've had to see a person I voted for inaugurated president: 1

I am not "A White Person," I am me.

Rachel said...

So, you are suggesting that the only way for it to be successful and enjoyable is to encourage segregation, which "our people" have fought for umpteen years to try to eradicate. Makes no sense. By labeling individuals based on race alone is ignorant and implies that we aren't individuals, but groups of 5 or so differing species of human being based on skin color alone, and no other factors that make us who we are.

You are encouraging racism and segregation.....good job, Miss Black Amerikah.

This is the President of the United States. I voted for him, but there is no sense of entitlement for me or for anyone when it comes to who he belongs to or who can own him, beyond the fact that he is the man we decided to run our country.

The whole thing is simply bullshit. And insulting. Oh. And ironic as far as its dubious treatment of the race issue goes...

This was fucking hilarious people need to geek down. This blog could've been a skit on Chappelle or SNL's Weekend update. props

Hi, I'm Canadian. Up here, we don't include race in our statistics, we do include language. Don't get me wrong, there's all kinds of cultural distinctions that sometimes relate to skin colour, but its the culture that really matters Like the Jamaicans for example who are for the most part black (and yes there are white Jamaicans complete with hilarious accent and crazy dancing). But no, our rifts are cultural and linguistic.

I lived in New Orleans for 4 years though, went to public high school there - mostly black, maybe 80% of the student body, Here's the funny thing - my skin is white, okay? Like chalk white. I'm talking blue veins white. BUT! Because I made fun of the black and white kids equally for their ridiculous New Orleanian accents (they called this highly enjoyable activity "ribbing") the black kids refused to view me as white. I was some kind of freakish new race that magically appeared in the north, born from the snow and raised by polar bears. I was "Canehjun". I would insist that in American terms I was white... But they would insist I wasn't.

So here's my question: White people not allowed.. Okay. Fine. Whatever. Not Canada's battle... But can Canadians go? I mean, we are WAAAAY more disenfranchised then any black Americans have ever been, cause we can not vote in the American Presidential Elections. Our economy completely depends on America keeping its head out of its ass, but we have no say in running that country. So for the first time you guys finally elect the internationalist, even-minded, sensible candidate that we would have voted for, and by God it's about time you all just stepped aside and let the Canadians follow their natural migratory patterns and fly south to DC to watch OUR candidate's inauguration!

Uhm, thank you. Have a great day.

jflyon said...

I could certainly see the skit being a part of SNL or Chappelle's Show, but this isn't presented that way. It's written as an earnest request for something completely backwards and ridiculous. Cue the racist and insulting feelings...and you have this article.

jflyon said...

You aren't disenfranchised in the same way that Black people have historically been. You're from another country.

Come on.

Canehjun here again... Uhm jflyon? Hi! How's it going? You're a dumb ass.

Here's a little wikiality for you, maybe to help you clue in, just a little. Yeah. That would be nice:

"Irony (from the Ancient Greek εἰρωνεία eironeía, meaning hypocrisy, deception, or feigned ignorance) is a literary or rhetorical device, in which there is an incongruity or discordance between what one says or does and what one means or what is generally understood. Irony is a mode of expression that calls attention to discrepancy between two levels of knowledge."

Okay then... Take care.

jflyon said...

My usage of irony might have been somewhat general, I'll give you that, but how can you compare your Canadian citizenship limiting your ability to vote in another goddamn country to the plight that blacks have dealt with in America for hundreds of years.

I'll say it is wrong to identify with a presidential candidate or any public figure as (insert body of people here)'s own, but those from outside the country are last on the list of those who should even try.

Have fun with hockey, eh?

Anonymous said...

Lol@ this. Black people are ignorant as fuck.

I wish people would see this is no longer a black/white thing. This is a human race thing, so many more issues going on in the world, so many more things to stand up for and fight for and against...it is sad that this type of stuff is still here. I love my country, I love all people, but this makes one's heart heavy.

I figured I wasn't in the minority to give the author of the post the benefit of the doubt that her post was intended to be humorous, but apparently I'm wrong. Wow. And watching everyone get up in arms about how racist this post is...just wow. Amazing how quickly we can point the finger at other people for being racist. We're all freaking racist whether we want to admit it or not. Heaven forbid someone base their humor on it. Note that I said HUMOR. Yes, racism is a bad thing, but it's irresponsible and idiotic to pretend that we are above it. The only way to deal with racism is to face it openly. Now I mean face our OWN racism, not simply call other people out on theirs.

Anyway. Hilarious. I shall continue to refresh and read.

This is awesome. I'm going to tell as many people (mostly racist and prejudice people) about this as I can. We can really churn up some deep seated bigotry...yee haw. I can't wait. I'll have to work my way up, but I sure do know some people that won't hesistate...hell maybe some of you on this posting can dig deeper. This post is shameful.

Obama's message is about inclusion, equality, and and unity. You sit there proclaiming to be for Obama and what he stands for all while spouting exactly the opposite ideals is disgusting.

I hope you realize that not only did you just encourage racism, but segregation. Nice job on the unity and equality front.

There are many people of every race and religion that are ecstatic about the social change here and abroad that Obama could bring. The only people who shouldn't go are people who are to narrow minded to get what Obama and this historic election stand for in the first place -- people like YOU!

umm, I took it as a joke and anyone who follows this blog would have too.

Sadly, I'm sure a lot of you were tickled when Dave Chapelle was at the top of his game by making edgy racial jokes...in fact, going to a mostly white college, Chapelle was simply put, "the man" around there. Clearly, he poked fun at every single stereotype known to man (Negrodamus, the Niggar Family, I know Black People...ring a bell?)...oh how quickly we forget.

Yeah, you know what's really racist? Grouping people together and ascribing an attribute to them based on skin color.

certain blacks speak to/about whites like certain women speak to/about men. they use race as their trump card, and women use their gender the same way. "treat me as an equal but at the same time keep feeling guilty and apologize for being you!" "no matter what you do you can never make up for what your kind did to my kind in the past!!"

victim mentality.

"i was only joking!!!!" and "how DARE you say anything back after what my kind have suffered! you are so clueless, you overpriveleged person!"

the overpriveleged person then is shamed or confused back into silence.

you need to step up and act like an equal and you'll be treated like one. if you keep acting like a victim you might guilt enough people to not call you on your shit but trust that you will NEVER be viewed as equal as long as you do, just an offensive victim that people throw undeserved perks at to keep quiet.

Please.
Like onetwotree said before, we are all some degree of racist and instead of pointing ur finger at somebody else and call them a racist, try and look inside at your own racism and deal with it.

The reality is that black people will be celebrating this in a different way than white people. It is personal in a way that it never can be for me, because I have not experienced racism, personal or institutional like they have. I take pride in my work for Obama's campaign and for the fact that my country did elect him. I think that some of the white people that I have commented are so indignant because they don't understand that there still might be anger and resentment amongst black people that will be expressed as prejudice against white people. We only elected one man, that did not change the make up of our society. So yeah, I might feel sad about the views of white people expressed in the post but I cannot judge it, cause I haven't stood in her shoes.

I HATE: Junkies, Gang-bangers, rapists, murderers, etc. AND anyone who thinks they are owed something because the color of their skin or the conditions of their birth. And YOU, not for your ethnicity, but for the naive, racist propaganda you spew (you know Hitler was fond of propaganda like this too).

YOU HATE: White people, because way back when, some ancestor of yours was enslaved.

Do you realize that most white people in this country have Native American ancestors? Ancestors which were slaughtered, enslaved, raped, and oppressed before "Black People" ? What about the Jewish? They are typically white... or do you only recall the history where Black People were pushed around?

Get over it, move on. To even think you have been oppressed is to make a complete mockery of the pains your ancestors went through.

Congratulations on diminishing the success of President Elect Obama, and being an embarrassment to the history of your race.

And as to the joke aspect, well ok:

Q: What's the best way to starve a black person?
A: Hide his food stamps under his work boots.

Q: What's 3 things you can't give a black person?
A: A black eye, a fat lip, and a job.

Q: How do you keep 4 black men from raping a white woman?
A: Throw them a basketball.

Q: How do you save a black person from drowning?
A: Take your boot off its head.

Q: What do you call a flaming bus full of black people?
A: A good start

Don't take it out of context, they're just jokes ...

The vulgarly racist jokes were obviously posted to make a point and you made it for me by freaking out.

It doesn't matter that people turn around and claim this blog to be a joke. It was completely tactless, racist, and offensive to an entire race of people.

If you claim that this blog is ok, but my jokes were not, then you are not only biased but also a hypocrite.

It does not matter that my jokes were more obviously offensive. People find this blog to be offensive just the same.

The difference is, I stated in my post that it was merely jokes, and it was clearly designed to prove a point (A set of counter-jokes if you will).

Why would this blog be ok and not my jokes? Because he/she is black? Should that give him/her more right to be offended by racist remarks and propaganda? Are you seriously claiming white people have no right to be offended by this kind of racists trash, that we deal with all the time?

But you don't see anyone leading rallies or charities or any of that crap to stop the racist attacks and hate crimes against white people.

Sad thing is,after reading this blog and the replies... for the first time in my life I'm wondering, just a little, if the Klan don't have the right idea.

THAT'S the kind of thinking your garbage inspires. Good job there :)

Well, congratulations, Sistah, for getting picked up by Newser.com. That’s how I found you. I spent some time in Newser’s comments section debating a representative sample of your angry mob here—what a sad bunch of dimwits. Hell hath no more petty fury than that of the righteously indignant, especially those with a financial interest—the folks who were ACTUAL donors to the POTUS elect! (I can’t believe the pettiness of bragging about that. It’s the least any good American could have done.) It was all pretty boring on Newser, though, except for a person I met who had a great Nelson Mandela story. Anyway, my comments there were posted before I read your post here, and after wading through the bile here I feel even more strongly now than I did before that it is NOT racist to ASK whites to stay home (and you did ask nicely, or at least as nicely as your Sistah Tolja personae allows.) I suppose you could have waxed a little bit eloquent about much you love white folks, and how some of your best friends are … but how BORING would that be. Those who have an inkling of what this blog is about, and what a madhouse it will be in DC on the 20th, should understand that your REQUEST is made in the interests of ALL CONCERNED. Those whites with an ounce of understanding and compassion will know how irresistible this day will be for all African Americans, especially those who live in the DC area. From my elderly white man’s perspective, it would be next to impossible to keep myself away if I were in the area, and I’d manage to fit in no doubt (I always do, or humiliate myself trying, as some see it. Yes, being bisexual and “Afro-centric” has given me some interesting stories to tell.) But, luckily I’m thousands of miles and an ocean away, and I can console myself with my friend’s picture taken with BO here on Oahu 2 weeks ago that I have it on my desktop now.) So folks, do yourselves a favor, and all of us. Give this idea some thought. If you’ve purchased your plane ticket already and booked your hotel room, of course you’re going to be there. But, if not, just think about it. Please, just think about it. That’s all we’re asking. Every white face missing from the multitude will be one less face the Secret Service has to worry about. AND IF YOU DO FIND YOURSELVES IN THE THICK OF THINGS, AND NOTICE A BLACK CHILD WHO NEEDS TO WITNESS THIS DAY A WHOLE LOT MORE THAN YOU DO, YOU MIGHT ASK PERMISSION TO LIFT THE CHILD UP ON YOUR SHOULDERS FOR A BETTER VIEW. JUST THINK ABOUT IT.

hi, i'm late to this conversation but wanted to say, as a scarf-wearing liberal white girl, that not only do i get it, sista toldja, but i thought it was funny and timely and kind of right on, in a real acerbic kind of way. but it's these responses i find troubling.

so many of the responses above smack of white privilege. dude, this isn't about who's ancestors enslaved whose, or a post-racial society or something, but about the persistent DEEP structural racism that pervades everyday life of black (and latin and native american and asian american etc) folks.

white privilege means that white ppl mostly haven't heard (racist or otherwise) jokes made about themselves, so they freak the fuck out.

white privilege means thinking that electing obama means some kind of total repair has been made to massive systemic inequality.

white privilege means being able to talk about inclusion and equality, go vote and feel good, and then drive home to your gated subdivision.

white privilege means white frat boys feeling like its okay to laugh their asses off at race-jokes, as long as they come via comedy central, with a mostly white viewership, while sistah gets all these ppl screaming racism on her blog.

i could go on. i am totally not exempt from this, of course.

i guess if i were writing something like sistah did, i would say, how about if all the working class people got DC for a day and all the movie stars and lobbyists and international industry moguls stayed the fuck out?

As one of the dreaded "White People™" from Jezebel, I found this post humorous. I can understand why Obama's inauguration means more to people who have fought for civil rights, and how important it is for those people to witness the ceremony and celebration.
Some of the comments on the Jezebel thread were hard to take... I'd like to be considered as an individual and not a stereotype, much like any other person would.
Also, where can I find the official "liberal" scarf? I'm very perturbed that I wasn't issued one.

The comments to Sista Toldja's original post is exactly why, as a "progressive" black women, I do not completely trust white liberals. Seriously, the reactions to this post are HILARIOUS and entirely predictable. First, there is the whole "reverse racism" thing because if a white person said this about black people it would be racist. Besides the fact that I do not believe reverse racism exists, let’s assume that it did. All you snitches that are whining and crying about the fact that a white person would not be able to say the same should stop being so freaking S-I-M-P-L-E. Y’all wouldn’t trade your white privilege for the opportunity to make a few off color jokes about another ethnicity so can the fake outrage. Second, there is the whole you are such a bad person for being a racist, but if we stay our white selves home (a) black men would cry because there would be no ethnically superior white women to holla at [that is particularly funny] (b) ni**ers will have the opportunity to only shoot other ni**ers and (c) baby momma’s won’t have extra toes to roll their bastard children’s strollers on. Is it any surprise that the irony of the original post is lost on these whiny MFs, such comments themselves being ironic? Finally, there is the whole I am a progressive white person living and loving this post-racial world and although I have given my stamp of approval to Dave Chappelle, your brand of humor does not meet with my approval therefore I will make my displeasure known. At this point this particular Massa, expects Sista Toldja to apologize and remove her posting forthwith.

Though I did find the original posting to be incredibly entertaining the comments were even more so and proved what I already suspected to be true. NEWS FLASH whiteys (yeah I said it), this ish really wasn’t for you. Unlike the Dave Chappelle show, this post was not meant to titillate and excite you so if you do not find it funny…well there is a reason for it. Damn Simple Snitches.

So are you saying that Obama should be valued as a president because of his race? I'm confused.

This is for the American people, not just for black people. I think that we should all be proud that DC will be crowded with people who are screaming and crying for a change in the lives of this nation. And to say that someone should look in the mirror at their skin color before considering attendance to this GLOBALLY HISTORIC event is ridiculous.

Rather than having this divisive rhetoric, let's focus on the positive. That a great man is now leader of the free world, and an entire city will be over flowing with people cheering for him.

that is possibly the most ignorant post ive read in awhile. seriously, i dont like to think of myself as rascist, but after reading that, i feel a lot of inner prejudice coming out. talk about conceited and moronic. some black ppl have let this go waaay to thier heads. here are sum facts

1) Barack is in no way going to alleviate the suffering of blacks or allow them to gain a better status in society. America (and all other societies for that matter) will remain stratified: there will always be rich and poor, and generally the poor are going to be ethnic minorities

2) Barack being president will not alleviate the racism that has built up over the decades. Racism will unfortunately never die. The sheer fact that ppl are different from each other (skin color, physical features, etc..) will always promote indifference and aversion from groups. Black ppl are just as rascist as whites, its part of human behavior.

3) Barack is not going to get everyone 10 acres and mule. sorry but he simply is not some black savior. now go back to ur rap music and pull up those pants. ;)

I would like to think that I live in a country of human beings. Not a country of while people and black people and hispanic people and whatever other race you can think of. Unfortunately I do not and this is not only because of white people. This is because of every single ethnic group; because in every ethnic group there are people who discriminate against others because they are not the same. YOU are part of the problem. This article you have written, in which you proclaim that this election is for black people, and that white people have done nothing to eradicate racism has done just the opposite. YOU have perpetuated racism by writing this article. I would like to ask you to stay home, not because of the color of your skin, but because your views have shown me and anyone else who reads what you have written that you do not understand the ideals that president elect Obama has been and will continue to strive to achieve in the united states.

calling a white person YT is pretty much the equivalent of calling a black person a nigger. The poster and several subsequent commenters are being extremely racist. I would like to get a show of hands from white people across America who had the chance to see 43 Presidents sworn in.

You are the reason that racism continues to be what it is. He is OUR president and he is making OUR lives better. I thought OUR country was finally on the right track. I mean we have OUR first black president and this is something WE all would love to see. GWB out of office a proud day for all of US.

C'MON PEOPLE--JUST CALM DOWN.

First of all--she is OBVIOUSLY kidding.
Second of all--she DOES have a good point about the ratio of a white person trying to get into a white inauguration and a black person trying to get into a black inauguration.

She isn't racist, she's making a joke--she doesn't want you to ACTUALLY stay home, she is just saying that this day is exponentially more important to a black person than a white person could ever understand. Hard fact of life, but true.

On a last note, I do appreciate all the white people who have said they understand that they would never understand what it's like to be a minority because it's true, you never will because you are not so please stop pretending you do. However, the elimination of racism does not have to do with these harsh truths of life, but rather the fact that we can relate to one another on a basic human level--our fears, humiliations, desires, they exist in all of us regardless of race--including the hope to better this country of ours.

Am I the only one who sees two white people in the 'black party' picture?

Holy hell, I would just love to see an inundation of comments like this directed at some of the ACTUAL racism going on in this country.

"calling a white person YT is pretty much the equivalent of calling a black person a nigger."

This is the some of the most ignorant ish I've read.

Nigger: Name thrown at the oppressed.

YT: Name thrown at the oppresser.

Not the same, sorry.

Also, this:

"I would like to get a show of hands from white people across America who had the chance to see 43 Presidents sworn in."

Yeah, really slick. Except everyone who is alive today and of legal age to vote STILL was able to witness a White president more times than they were a Black one. So, her point is still valid. And forget about just witnessing it, we're LEARNED about it in school. I can't WAIT to see those Social Studies books with Obama's pic in the List of Presidents in the back of the book.

What you said in your post is a load of nonsense and you know it. You obviously know how to spark up controversy.

But I for one respect your right to say it. I believe that you should be able to voice your opinion with impunity. Not like those days of old where you were likely to receive a late night call by a group of hooded scum bags dressed in white burning crosses outside your house and possibly turning you into a bit of "strange fruit"

I am a little disappointed at the amount of anonymous comments you received. I wish people had the guts to show their faces when they speak.

I would go and fight for your right to be able to say what you want to say in a second. Even though I think that what you actually said was a load of nonsense.

Wow this is racist as hell. Great job encouraging ignorance. I hope the presence of whites, hispanics and asians ruins your little get together.

Wish I'd have gotten in on this yesterday, but just wanted to tell you that this white chick loved what you had to say and wishes you didn't have to apologize for it.

another clever blog... you're talking about us being racist? while you're saying that only black people should attend the inauguration of our new president who is supposed to save us from one of the worst states our country has ever been in? maybe you can see that most of us (including black people) have gotten over racial differences, and are concerned about MORE IMPORTANT THINGS..... sista

Hey, I just wanted to apologize for all the crazy Jezebels. I really thought most of that site's readers were better than this. I just wish all the fucking Jezzie cowards had used the usernames from there on here rather than hiding behind anonymity. I know some of the most outlandishly racist of these comments must have come from them.

And, not that you need my validation, but I thought the post was very funny. I have no idea why it inspired that whole kerfuffle yesterday. (Well, actually, I do have some idea, and it gives me yet another reason to be embarrassed about being a white person.)
