The Hate List, Vol. 3: Oh,Taye.....

Hey kids. Hope you didn't get spoiled with that 6pm post yesterday. For all five of y'all who read this regularly, y'all know I usually don't post until after midnight! It's barely 11:30, so I'm still ahead of the game!

Time flies, and thank God it does. But I didn't even realize that it's already December 20th. I still haven't packed for my sourjourn to the Chi, and I'm leaving tommorrow afternoon. Shit. Be on the lookout for my holiday post "Why Sister Toldja Hates The Holidays". I guarantee it'll be a new X-mas classic, just like that boring mind-fuck of a movie "It's A Wonderful Life". Ever year I see it, I'm like "You gotta be kidding me. This was really in theatres? They really keep showing it?" Anyway, you'll want to read my post to your family each year and say "Now thank Baby Jesus that this isn't our family." Guaranteed.

Speaking of family: over a week at my mom's house. Yowza. And she's not working either, so I won't be getting any alone time. And I won't have my car, so if I want to bounce I gotta hop on the CTA or call someone. I'm all for public trans. in Chicago, brings back so many memories. But it's gonna be cold. Goodness. I'm hoping there won't be bloodshed.....

In other news, Taye Diggs is a punk-ass bitch.

So, according to the good people at Concrete Loop, Tay-Tay is pissed about the cancellation of his ABC series, "Daybreak". AND he's figured that the sistas are to blame, because we didn't support the show due to his on and off-screen White love interests. This would be surmised from the survey Taye did of every Black woman in America. Or the large number of Black homes with Nielsen boxes. Or the great sway Black women have over American entertainment. Or, more likely, the sista Taye met in LA who said "That's what yo' ass gets!" Apparently, she spoke for all of us.

Taye also let it be known that people have let him know that his White wife is almost okay, because she kinda looks Hispanic*, that Black women would not have supported Will Smith's Hitch if the lead female were White and that sisters wouldn't support Smith or Denzel Washington period if they had White wives and co-stars.

*Cue violins*

My people, don't mourn the end of Taye Diggs career. In fact, let's celebrate! We haven't been adequately put in our places since Wesley Snipes intoned "What can a Black woman do for me?" circa 1993. With out Taye laying down the law, we would have forgotten what vindictive, cruel, tv show-ignoring bitches we are.

Jokes aside, Taye, you are the worst. First of all, how much power do Black women alone hold to get a show cancelled for which we were not the target audience. We ain't talking about "Oh, Drama" or "Cita's World". This shit was on ABC and it wasn't a "Black" show. If they listened to sistas, "Living Single" (AKA "Friends, vers. 1.0") would still be on! Second of all, you choose to marry a White woman, then turn around and expect us to support you AND blame us when your shit fails? Why do you think we should be obligated to watch a show just because a Black man is on it? Clearly, you don't feel any particular obligation to Black women. But we owe YOU something?

Taye, did you consider that it was WHITE MEN who failed to watch the show for the same g-d reason you accuse Black women of? They have way more sway on ratings than us. And
where were your White female fans? Apparently, they weren't watching either. Let's add this up: you got a show with a Black male lead and White female love interest. The supporting characters were also mostly White. So the one group NOT adequately represented on the show, Black women, were supposed to be responsible for keeping this show alive? Without Nielsen boxes?

And this is your SECOND cancelled show. I have to say, it's not me, it's YOU. Maybe it was a WACK ASS SHOW!!!! I don't watch TV, but if I did, I wouldn't watch this show because it looked to be just like Groundhog Day. I saw that movie ten years ago and I feel no need to watch a new version.

You see, Taye, your little lame ass, crumb-cake, Hush Puppy shoe wearing ass don't have the same appeal to the White audiences that you did in the Black "same actors, every film" community a few years ago. And the sisters weren't gonna save you! The show didn't look good, and many of us don't particularly want to see brothers with White women. But I hardly think the latter is why your show couldn't stay afloat. We just weren't that into you to begin with.

Furthermore, many Black women watch Grey's Anatomy, even though gorgeous Isiah Washington is tripping over that marginal Asian broad** and the older Black doctor cheated on his Black wife with a White woman. Now, while I do question why sisters get the short end of the stick on a show with a Black female head writer***, I can tell you why sisters will watch that show for years to come: IT'S A GOOD SHOW. Make one, Tay-Tay, and come moan to me then.

And you damn right we gonna support Will and Denzel over you. They act better, they look better and yes, they married Black women. We love seeing them (as well as Isaiah) with their familes, because the media tells us day in and day out that we ain't as good as your wife, not as desireable and not likely to marry. Suck it up, stand behind your decision to marry who you did, but don't come saying a word about racial solidarity! The unmitigated gall of you to assume we should support you just because!

I'll note that Terrance Howard has a White wife as well. But he has, thus far, but linked with Black women in films. Perhaps he knows that is the best thing to do to keep Black AND White audiences in his corner. Or maybe, he will switch it up and do a film with a White female love intrest that people will still go and see. Because, unlike you, he's a great actor!

Taye, your were marginal in Stella (the accent was trash). You have played the same vaguely interesting character in everything else. You're like Broadway's answer to Ice Cube: "Best Man Guy" writes a book. "Best Man Guy" loves Hip-Hop. "Best Man Guy" is a lawyer. "Best Man Guy" has two failed series under his belt. Doubt there'll be a third, brotha.

Boo, Negro, Boo! You gets no love.

On a HAPPIER note: darling little Nia, star of many You Tube videos, has been tapped to do a commercial for Mary J. Blige's greatest hits albulm. I LOVE it! You know, I'm totally rooting for sons, but if I have a little girl I hope she's just like this one:

Um, why is "Family Affair" listed like that's a classic Mary song? That's the one people openly diss ("hateration", "dancery"). And "We Ride" sucks! This may be the last Mary CD worth buying if she keeps this up. But I LOVE Nia!

Holla Black!
Sister Toldja

*-Don't put that woman off on any other race. That's not "ethnically ambiguous", that's ugly.

**-The woman is not marginal by the virtue of her race, but by any standard of female beauty.

***-I like Bailey too, but she is the stereotypical mean, de-sexualized Black female character.

13 props:

I love your blog by the way and this entry is straight truth.

*slaps table in agreement with liz*

Taye is a mess, and that accent in Stella was absolutely piss poor. Even Miss Cleo was better.

Aiight 'Oran'.

I appreciate speaking for the sisters on lil whitebread there. I did watch the show and it was pretty damn interesting, but the writers get the kudos for that there. Lil whitebread was simply "BestManGuy" in a good TV show that should have gone to another actor. I can't wait til' ABC recycles this with another actor and it goes off the charts.

All I can say is that Taye Diggs needs to raise his acting game and stop blaming all his problems on the color of the woman he married and hate from black women.
He should find a niche role and stick to it.

As a member of team 'hate' I must commend you on this excellent post on Taye Diggs. I couldn't have said it any better. How can he blame black women for the failure of his show?
